Slacker Radio Arrives on Blackberry & iPhone

Internet radio service Slacker has made good on their promise to deliver a Blackberry client. What I didn’t know, prior to the show, is that a free iPhone client was also in the works.

CES 2009: Day 3 Summary

After a few days of pre-show activities, the main CES venues finally opened for business. Both Mari and I visited several exhibitors large and small at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and the Sands Expo and Convention Center. And we’re now set with a sizeable backlog of content we’d like to get up. So, … Read more

Hands On With Kodak Zx1

As a short term owner of the Kodak Zi6 HD video camera ($180), I was interested in taking a gander at Kodak’s new Zx1 ($150) last night… which may or may not be an upgrade. Like its predecessor, the updated cam features 720p video recording onto SD cards. However, the new “weather resistant” model is … Read more

SlingCatcher Updates On The Way

The early SlingCatcher reviews were decidedly mixed. But, after speaking with project manager Matthew Feinstein last night, I’ve got decent news for owners and potential customers: Both Slingbox PRO HD high definition and networked drive streaming are on tap for Q1. Slingbox PRO HD resolutions will bumped up from 640×480 to 1280×540… with the ultimate … Read more

CES 2009: Day 2 Summary

Approaching 3AM here in Vegas, we’re still about 7 hours from the “official” opening of the CES show floor. However, it’s probably safe to say most company announcements (outside “the great Palm anticipation“) have been made at this point. Despite the initial slow going, I caught a bit of the Netgear press conference, visited Ooma and Sling in the convention center, met up with SageTV for a Hulu briefing, and perused a variety of products at the Digital Experience evening press event. The most compelling tech I came across today were the various implementations of Yahoo Internet TV Widgets, including the Samsung Blu-ray Netflix Soundbar and Vizio HDTV with QWERTY remote.

The day was also notable for the lack of information I was able to squeeze from TiVo… No new info on the renewed DirecTV collaboration, Comcast, or Cox rollouts. No new info on stand-alone hardware evolution. No update on the possibility of Amazon Video on Demand in HD. Although, I did come away with a bit more perspective on the new search interface/experience and heavy weighting of customer feedback going forward.

Last, but surely not least, Mari also arrived in Vegas today and hit the ground running. And, without further ado, here’s today’s earlier coverage:

Hulu Coming to SageTV Video Hardware

It was quite refreshing to swing by SageTV’s suite earlier this evening for a pre-release demo of Hulu playback direct from the compact SageTV HD Theater.

The Blogging Gear of CES

Following in the footsteps of my fellow geek bloggers (Gotta Be Mobile, Lilliputing, jkOnTheRun, etc) and marketing peeps (Stage Two Consulting), it’s time for a quick post on the gear I’m toting to cover CES. While I’ve seen more netbooks than I can count here in the press and blogger lounges, I found the vertical … Read more
