Elevate: The $1000 TV Lift Cabinet

Elevate_Espresso_Bedroom_Vignette1

We rarely cover home entertainment, gaming, or gadget furnishings, but the new $1000 Elevate television stand is noteworthy for making lift cabinet technology available to the masses. Elevate, which raises/lowers up to a 42″ television in under 40 seconds, will be available next month in three finishes and with optional, matching side tables. Elevate comes fully assembled and is operated via remote. I can’t say I’m fond of the look for the living room (not to mention my plasma wouldn’t fit), but this could be a mighty fine addition to a study or bedroom. Especially in a bedroom. If you can figure out how to hide the cabling.

  1. I’m sure Ben D. will hate the height of this. ;)

Speaking of furniture, I’m on the lookout for an attractive, yet versatile piece of tall shelving/rack to hold a lot of my test/review items – possibly including a 20-something inch LCD. Any ideas?

  2. Okay, just watched the videos… 40 seconds is painfully slow. They never included a full transition in a 2 minute video. I’ll have to stick with the old painting that slides down to magically reveal the TV as if from nowhere.

  3. I had something like this at my room at the Venetian a few years ago. It was pretty slick. However, this goes against my TV in the bedroom ban.

For furniture, I’ve been happy with the selection at Belfort in Sterling.

  4. Thanks for the Belfort recommendation. It’s not too far from my office and I’ve been meaning to check them out. Not that we need new furniture at this time (other than that lab rack). :)

  5. The pictures fail to show the pile of clothes, earrings, mail, etc. that would inevitably slide off of this every time it opened because my wife drops her stuff on any flat surface she can find… ;)

  6. Clearly the bed of a short person! I could never put anything up against the foot of my bed. And, I agree, 40 seconds is forever.

  7. We’re a household of short people, although our bed is higher. The 40 seconds wouldn’t be a prob for us, as we wouldn’t sit and watch it. We usually flip on the bedroom TV as we’re getting settled, brushing teeth, etc so it’d be ready when we were. In the morning, I’d flip the button before heading out. Not to mention it probably rises faster than most Blu-ray players boot. ;)

  8. Back when I subscribed to AVI, I always wanted the Auton lift. Never really investigated it because I didn’t have the tv for it. Now that I have the TV, $1000/$5000 seems alot to spend to hide it away. Nowadays, I’d like everyone to see my plasma and just how great I think it is.

  9. Those auton lifts on that link for 42 inch tv start at $3200 and that is just for the lift, not the custom cabinet you’ll then have to build for $$$$…

Not really comparable to this one for $1000 bucks for lift and cabinet all together. So there’s a tradeoff but for that price it seems pretty sweet option for a bedroom tv for sure.

  10. I’m actually in the process of researching and building a custom cabinet w/ lift. Lift prices are pretty wide ranging from 500 to 1000 depending on the application. The auton lifts are very expensive for unknown reasons. I’d say the min you’re going to spend on a custom rig that’s pretty basic is going to be 1500, and more like $2k when it’s all said and done. $1000 for this is cheap, but man is it ugly, and thick. The average NEW flat screen is <3" these days (total guess) or less. Does it really have to be 24" deep?

  11. OK, but where does the TiVo, Roku box, AppleTV 360 and PS3 go? Nobody just watches TV anymore. Somehow the boxes need to be fit into the picture some how.

I like the idea though. Except, as someone who rarely makes my bed, I’m unlikely to have a need to put away the TV. Hell, just leave it open all the time.

  12. Great posts so far. Lifts do range from $500 – $4000 for the machine only and $1000 – $20,000 for cabinets with lifts. Some, like us (shameless plug: http://www.importadvantage.com) have lifts ranging from $1499 to $3000 which fits most budgets. Happy to answer any questions about our lifts or others. In fact, building your own can be easier than you think! A bunch of cool http://www.youtube.com videos are out there on converting exisiting furniture into a lift. You can even buy from companies like unfinished wood and convert.
