  1. It’s a definite improvement over the previous functionality, but it’s still limited. You can bulk upload which is a huge time saver and it auto-generates the pages, but the customization options are minimal. For example, I’d like to reduce the white space between rows. Also, individual picture pages don’t use the default “post” template, so things like comments and ShareThis are not available until/unless I make some theme modifications. Hopefully, someone will craft a plugin for more granular control or maybe 2.6 will expand upon this in a few months. Regardless, I’ll being using it as it is – I prefer to host pictures here than send folks off to Flickr, SmugMug, MacGallery, etc and this is simpler than some of the existing gallery add-ons.

  2. Have you seen what this post looks like in Bloglines? All those thumbnails are in one row, and the post is something like 3000 pixels tall. While this new gallery feature is a big step forward, it’s still quite crude compared to other stuff out there. I love the way pics pop up with Slimbox, a lighter (code-wise) variant of Lightbox.

  3. Yah, the behavior is the same in Google Reader – not ideal. Hopefully, it can be fixed with 2.5.1 rather than waiting for 2.6. I’m also looking at NextGEN Gallery and a few others. We’ll see…

  4. I went 3-wide and while it looks good and fits the space, it’s still a little inelegant… but then again, aren’t most 1st versions of anything?
