Deal of the Day: Nokia 770 @ $140

nokia770.jpgTrue, the 700 is Nokia’s previous iteration of the Internet Tablet — But at $140, via Mobile Planet, maybe it doesn’t matter. It offers WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and, while you probably won’t get Skype compatability, it looks like many of the other new N800 software features will be available. I’m tempted…

  1. I’m tempted too. However, Davis F says it’s not worth it and I’ve heard lots of bad things about it, more so then good. But for under $150, hmmm….

  2. If I didn’t already have a PSP sitting in my nightstand (collecting dust), I’d probably pull the trigger. But maybe it means I need to trade in my WinMo Smartphone for another PPC version.

  3. The 770 is $139.99 @ buy.com too (just edging out the Slingbox Pro on the “today’s top sellers” list on their home page).

Fortunately I was able to borrow one from a friend to play with before shelling out cash for one of my own. At $140 the price seems right, but so far I haven’t found many times when it was worth using instead of whatever else I had available (a sleeping Mac or PowerBook around the house, a desktop at work, or a Treo anywhere else).

It might be a cool gizmo for the kids to play with, but the UI unfortunately does not seem quite intuitive enough, nor is the device very responsive (which probably explains why the N800 has both a faster CPU and more memory). Personally, I wish it also had a (real) keyboard, like the old Nokia clamshells.
