Normally, I wouldn’t bother drawing attention a new cable/telco remote control. However, what makes AT&T’s offering unique is that this $50 RF U-Verse remote is an optional accessory/upgrade, available via their website. I’ve received confirmation that the remote control is a Motorola creation, while the USB RF dongle was sourced elsewhere. At fifty bucks, AT&T won’t be making much money on this device but it’s a nice-to-have offering for the small number of subscribers who will understand and utilize RF to beam commands through solid objects. A nice touch is the dual inclusion of IR control, allowing folks to also power their televisions and other devices.

Hmm. I wonder if Motorola would sell that to other CE manufacturers. Looks like a nice remote with the basic, needed/wanted features.
I would like to see that on the Cable boxes as well. Motorola DCT / DCH and DCX all have USB ports for an RF dongle.
Why can’t TiVo do this? I’d like to see an RF version of the TiVo remote with a USB dongle.
I purchased this unit and it is junk. When it decides to work, it’s woefully slow. I’m sending it back. I’ll go back to my infrared extenders.
John – I agree. When I had an RF remote with DirectTV, it worked from 30 yards away in another room. This Uverse RF remote works when it wants to – and that’s random – even when I am within 8 feet with nothing between me and the USB receiver. Tilt it in the correct direction – press the button just right and MAYBE it will work. That is NOT RF functionality. For what I paid for it – it should work 100% out-of-the-box.
Maybe you can blame me for expecting too much from AT&T – cripes – their show guide is lacking so much functionality (can’t filter the list for just MOVIES and you can’t have multiple ‘favorites’).
Don’t get me started on the hours of my time on the phone with AT&T support getting Uverse installed and dealing with technical issues after-the-fact.
Did anyone who bought this remote have those little sensors attached to their system that is attatched to the tv, and then the remote eyes are attatched to each individual unit they want to control? Or have the wireless style infared eye built into the wall?
I have been trying to get through the ATT maze of phone support but end up with a good-bye. They are becoming just like the Time Warner. I think people will start reading again.
I have this product and it is junk. I had the RF remote with DirecTV and it worked great from 2 rooms away and on different floors of my house – box on first floor – remote worked on second floor to control the receiver. Looking for a decent cost effective IR extender to replace this waste of money.
Your remotes for your U-Verse suck, have to click several times to turn the units on/off, the volume control is the same way in up or down. They look pretty but thats where it stops. Very disappointed!!!!
I have ATT U-verse and my problem is with the remote conrols. I have had att service now for seven months, and three remote controls have some of their functions stop working. Its mainly the mute and last station buttons that quite working. I’m getting tired of paying twenty dollars for another remote control every two to three months. Does anyone else have this problem?
I have 2 receivers one on top of the other. I need a remote or some scheme that will allow me to change the channel on one of the boxes without changing the channel on the other box. Technical support says this is not possible. There has to be a way. Any suggestions?
is there a third party rf that works well with u-verse?
Yes, I have that problem. The remotes are manufactured using silicon key buttons. The business side of the button is impregnated with a conductive material. Unfortunately this material is either inferieor or the manufacturing process is flawed. In the end the button no longer conducts and the key press is missed. Sometimes working the button helps but in the end it fails. Its a piece of junk and ATT knows it but they offer little help other than buy another. They are unwilling to support this. I have resorted to buying three new remotes. They can be bought for less than $20 from other vendors. The gravy sucking pigs (GSP) at ATT can’t even offer a low cost replacement. I am looking at alternative entertainment sources as a result of thier poor support. I keep in mind all vendors have thier quirks but it sure looks like they all have one thing in common and that is the all mighty $ over customer satisfaction. Its really a scam. A scam I can’t seem to stay away from and they know that.
Harry, One more thing. There are products out there that allow you to refurbish the conductive part of they key pad. They do work but not 100%. I refurbished all three of my failed remotes and was able to get 2 up and running but not all the keys function reliably. Its a matter of time before they degrade, Im sure.
The remote Stinks, it only has backlites on a few button it is not a very good remote low lighting. It needs to be changed. IThey need to make it customer friendly.
