Each CES, there’s some sort of playful gadget that gets my juices going. A few years back, it was Sony’s Rolly. Last year, it was a UFO. In 2011, Sphero takes top gizmo honors.
Sphero is essentially a glowing ball, remote controlled over Bluetooth via Android or iOS devices. As to why you’d want it, who knows. But it’s cool. Whether or not you have a cat to terrorize. Other fun facts: Sphero’s battery is wirelessly recharged using an inductive cradle and the LED lighting can be adjusted on the fly to any or all hues of your choosing. Last but not least, Sphero is accompanied by an open API so others will have the opportunity to come up with creative apps and uses.
In the video above, I’m speaking with founder and CTO Ian Bernstein who tells me Sphero will ship prior to the holidays for under $100.
The tech looks great, but I hope they think of use cases. Maybe some augmented reality games?
I think gaming is one category they hope to hit hard.
I predict this will be a huge success. Sort of like a modern day and way more functional pet rock. Get a refferal link for a pre order Dave.
