Everyone wants a piece of the smart home pie. And it appears connected garage door leader Chamberlain will be next to branch out by imminently expanding their MyQ home automation platform to include a WiFi camera.
Like so many these days, MyQ Camera account linkage will be handled via QR scanning and the black camera (which also hopefully comes in white) sports the mainstays of speaker, microphone, infrared night vision, and a handy magnetic base. Interestingly, the camera also includes a microSD slot – although I suspect the primary play will be a cloud storage subscription, building upon their controversial decision to charge for pretty standard integrations, including IFTTT and Google Home.
Beyond video surveillance, we’re also seeing references to native MyQ app Lockitron smartlock control — not to mention an updated Lockitron privacy policy directs folks to Chamberlain legal, so the company clearly has designs on much more than the consumer garage. With CES just a week away, I assume we’ll find out more real soon.
