What’s the Sonos S100?

Could useĀ a little help here…

A few weeks back, the SONOS S100 passed thru the FCC. Sadly, there is very little useful information to anyone outside of engineering and compliance. I’ve wondered if it could be a Boost update to integrateĀ Apple HomeKit and Siri voice control – wouldn’t that be nifty? (Especially since I unloaded the acoustically inferiorĀ Amazon Echo.) Some on the forums have suggested the Play:5 is being phased out and this could be its replacement. The Sonos lineup isĀ also still in need ofĀ a battery-poweredĀ portable or nightstand speakerĀ – perhaps this Nightingale? And we still don’t know what that Sonos Playbase is all about.

UPDATE: Found something…!

  1. “Whatā€™s the Sonos S100? Have any thoughts on the matter, informed or otherwise?”

Obviously an electric car. With a stylus.

(Does this qualify as “informed”? Or “otherwise”?)

  2. I’m guessing lower end wireless speaker, priced at $100. They have everything else pretty much covered. I have a couple of friends that keep buying Sonos stuff and are very happy with it. Sonos for the powder room?

I went the internet receiver route at home as already had lots of speakers and I’m generally cheap. It is almost as flexible as the Sonos.

  3. I’ve received word that Sonos is briefing folks. Obviously I’m not on the list. And that’s OK. ;) Happy hunting.

That’s definitive confirmation that it is indeed an electric car. With a stylus.

  5. Pretty sure the Nightingale is the RM009 which is probably an updated Play:1 that was released in place to probably improve WiFi for a post-Bridge world.

The S100 is the RM010. Could that be the Playbase? Or finally something more portable? Personally, I’d be up for a revised Playbar with HDMI inputs and switching.
