Wink App Update Outs Cree Connected Zigbee Bulbs

The Wink Hub iPhone app was just updated and, amongst various bug fixes, is reference to “support for Cree light bulbs.” Cree is generally known for high quality, low-cost LEDs (and I’m quite fond of the BR30s), but really hasn’t been mentioned in the DIY home automation space… until now. So I backtracked thru the FCC to pull up the Cree Connected Zigbee bulbs you see above. While it’s yet to be seen how pricing and lighting compare to Wink’s own GE bulbs, we should expect these puppies to ship real soon soon.

  1. Pretty sure I came across this on the FCC back in November, but either missed its significance or was too busy to mess with it. The Cree Connected packaging clearly shows the Wink app, which I find most interesting given their own line of GE-branded connected lights.

  2. Yep, should work with Staples Connect (D-Link edition). If you look under Simple Setup on the product paperwork above right it says Wink “or Zigbee compatible hub.”

  3. “Nice! I assume these will work with other hubs too.”

The spokes are made out of people! You tell everybody. Listen to me. You’ve gotta tell them! The spokes are people! We’ve gotta stop them somehow!
