Alaskan Cable Co GCI Taking TiVo Reservations

Dave Zatz —  February 12, 2013

TiVo’s strategy of empowering second and third tier US cable providers continues to bear fruit as GCI is now collecting names for what looks like a brewing DVR launch:

Thanks for your interest in GCI TV powered by TiVo! Please fill out this form and we’ll be back in touch with you when this exciting new service is ready for you. GCI TV powered by TiVo will initially be available in Anchorage, Chugiak, Girdwood, Eagle River, Wasilla and Palmer.

GCI’s imagery appears to be sourced from the same photoshoot displayed on TiVo’s recent home page update and shows a TiVo Premiere, TiVo Stream, and iPads in action. However, unlike TiVo partner Suddenlink, there is no mention or pics of the TiVo Mini extender. As one may imagine, the Netflix app doesn’t appear to be offered via GCI’s upcoming TiVo package, but YouTube, Amazon VOD, Pandora and GCI On Demand are featured – although monthly fees have not yet been revealed… beyond promises of a free install.

(Thanks Sam!)

  1. I was a bit surprised that the Mini isn’t part of the launch. It will be interesting to see the details of the boxes they are rolling out. Perhaps they are waiting for the 6-tuner Pace box before rolling out the Mini.

  2. GCI will be utilizing the 6 tuner XG1 box from Pace once it’s available, but will make it’s initial launch on TiVo hardware.

  3. Pablo, do you have any info on the availability date of the XG1 box from Pace?

  4. Do you mean XG1 w/TiVo at GCI specifically?

  5. At GCI or in general to any TiVo customers? I think we heard that the Pace XG1 with TiVo software was going to be deployed in early 2013. I wasn’t sure if you had a connection to Pace or GCI.

  6. AFAIK the XG1 will not be a retail product in the US, MSO only. I had heard that GCI trials of XG1 w/TiVo should begin around April/May. You may also start to hear about XG1 w/TiVo @ Suddenlink, Mediacom, Midcontinent, and Charter shortly after that.
