Barnes & Noble Nook Unboxing and First Take

While the launch of Barnes & Noble’s Nook hasn’t been smooth, the arrival of the devices in stores and in some homes has been met with excitement. We have a lot of Kindle exposure, so the comparisons have been drawn immediately. My first Nook impressions are actually quite positive. I love having the next-page and prev-page on both sides of the device, but navigation is not always intuitive. I see great potential in the touch-screen, but the more I use it the more I feel like it hasn’t been implemented very well yet. Read the rest of this entry »

  1. Did they update the software yet?
    I was browsing one in the MIT Coop on Friday and it had the reported problem of selecting the neighboring title when showing covers on the color screen, then after fewer than 5 min with it, it crashed. The error message said
    The application Library (process com.bravo.library) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
    There was no clear way to try again though as the error box has no buttons. Was I supposed to power cycle? Hit the n key? Take the battery out? It didn’t tell me.
    I walked away…
