AMC’s Best Picture Showcase

amc-oscar

2008 was the rare year in which I missed every Oscar Best Picture nominee. Pretty depressing for a (former?) film buff. Fortunately, AMC’s hooked me up with a ticket to their all-day Best Picture Showcase being held Saturday (2/21). I may have neglected to mention to their rep that I’d planned to attend anyhow – $30 for five quality flicks (and unlimited popcorn) seems like a nice deal to me. The AMC event is being held at nearly 100 theaters around the country, and I’ll be at Tysons Corner 16 (with stadium seating) if you’d like to join me for the movie marathon:

  • Milk 10:30AM
  • The Reader 1:05PM
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3:45PM
  • Slumdog Millionaire 7:15PM
  • Frost/Nixon 9:45PM

Although I’ve been negligent, Dale’s cranking out reviews of many Oscar nominated films and talent that may be of interest before heading to the theatre or filling your Netflix queue.

  1. FYI The PR rep did say they expect to sell out in many location. So if you want in, you should probably reserve your seats online. The main Showcase page lets you put in your zip to find local theaters hosting the films and links to the purchase option.

They did say I could give away an addtional ticket to ZNF readers. However, it wouldn’t really go over well in my household if I didn’t bring Melissa. So she gets the seat. Sorry! ;)

  2. Three theaters in Houston. Also, AMC’s page says that tickets are $25 for MovieWatcher members but to take advantage, you have to buy them at the box office.

  3. AMC bungled their blogger outreach and the theater sold out of tickets without them having set aside any for the folks they recruited to cover the event. I’m trying to get us into the AMC Rio (Gaithersburg) at this point… we shall see!

UPDATE: We’re on for the AMC Rio. Maryland peeps, please feel free to join me. But get your tickets quick, they’re obviously selling out.
