WeatherNation TV, who got some attention recently as a Weather Channel alternative given the DirecTV retransmission spat, wrote to remind us their Roku channel is now available. Beyond regional interactivity, the app also provides live video… which looks pretty good windowed, but there’s work to be done on full screen resolution/quality. The virtual channel was last updated updated about a month ago and has garnered over 2000 reviews, as this is exactly the sort of content cord cutters are searching for — and pairing WeatherNation with SkyNews is a pretty powerful combo for 24/7 news junkies (like my wife).

Speaking of resolution, I hope Vine one day figures how how to look better…
Definitely agree with you about WeatherNation. I stumbled onto the Roku app a couple months ago, and it (the app *and* the channel) has come a long way in just a couple months. Now I need to find a sports app that provides cordcutters with good coverage of the NCAA tournament!
It’s been around since September.
Thanks for the clarification on timing dwgsp and Roly – their outreach was somewhat misleading. I’ve gone ahead and tweaked the post, but obviously left it up, as if I didn’t know about it I assume there are others who will also be happy to now learn of the channel.
It’s a nice app. I wish other apps took such care to look nice.
Look at Amazon’s app. It’s a simple grey screen with lists. Not very spectacular. Unfortunately, it’s the norm.
HBOGO’s app was pretty good.
Most of the apps look pretty simple/crappy, though.

I actually really dig the Roku Amazon app. Simple, uncluttered, and massively functional.
Functional UX is the holy grail for the user.
