Bear Stearns is out today with some TiVo thoughts after a few references in Amazon’s quarterly statement and conference call:
The Company launched “Amazon Unbox on TiVo,” available to over 1.5 million broadband-ready TiVo boxes and offering subscribers a great way to find, download and watch on their televisions thousands of movies and TV shows available through Amazon Unbox.
In addition to prioritizing broadband features such as Amazon Unbox in the upcoming fiscal year as key DVR differentiators, Bear Stearns believes TiVo will unleash a marketing “blitz” in May preceding the Comcast Motorola TiVo rollout. And while they felt Denver might be the first market to receive this unit, they’re no longer as confident. Though they still expect a “late-spring” deployment… somewhere.
As the Comcast Tivo intro recedes into the distance, it looks more and more like the early adopters who shelled out for their Series 3 units made the right choice.
I don’t think people realize how posied TIVO is for a long and happy future. ECHO will lose the appeal and pump 70-250 MILLION bucks into TIVO’s bank. What do you think this will do for Tivo’s R&D and International effort. They will finally have the time ( and money ) to develop the technology and spend less time defending their many patents from copy cat cheaters like ECHO.
