Offline Playback headed to Rhapsody iPhone App

After a decade+ hiatus, Alice in Chains is back in business with William DuVall on vocals.  However, I didn’t rush right out to purchase the new ‘album’ Black Gives Way to Blue. AiC may be one of my favorite bands, but I had no idea what sort of music they’d produce as middle aged men … Read more

Question of the Day: AppleTV with Blu-ray?

After reading rumors of new Macs with integrated Blu-ray drives for the umpteenth time, I posed a query to my Twitter followers: “Would you buy an AppleTV if it had a Blu-ray drive, too?” Because a computer or laptop with a Blu-ray playback capabilities doesn’t do much for me. I prefer to watch HD movies … Read more

The iPhone Driving Apps of the Week

Inrix Traffic! Inrix is the company that powers or supplements quite a few traffic related services, including the (discontinued) Dash Express during my tenure at Dash Navigation (acquired by RIM). And while Inrix typically licenses their data to others, the iPhone app is completely free – perfect for getting a quick read on the situation. … Read more

EyeTV Releases Placeshifting iPhone App

EyeTV, the OS X DVR software and television tuning/encoding hardware provider, receives a companion iPhone app today. The $5 EyeTV for iPhone (iTunes link) provides access to both live and recorded content originating from your Mac, which needs to be running the new EyeTV 3.2 update. While a prior iteration of EyeTV enabled local streaming … Read more

The New iPhone Apps of the Week

Hava Mobile Hava support seemed to think it’d be a few weeks before Apple unleashed their placeshifting app, but here we are. Photo of the Day: The iPod Touch Camera

If you needed more proof, beyond the pre-release spy shots and post-release teardown, that the updated iPod Touch was intended to house a camera, perhaps this photo will do the trick. Above, you see a work buddy’s new iPod Touch connected to a Windows laptop without an iTunes install. And the OS seems to think … Read more

Hava iPhone Client Submitted to Apple

Hava’s iPhone placeshifting client has been submitted to Apple for approval, according to email correspondence from customer service staff. Like their Slingbox competition, I suspect we’ll most likely end up with another crippled WiFi-only release due to AT&T’s non-net neutral policies. (Although, the FCC is expected to say something on this matter today.) I first took the Hava mobile software for a spin back at CES using an iPod Touch (pic above). At that time it wasn’t nearly as polished as their fine Nokia Maemo client. So I assume the intervening months have been put to good use in perfecting the experience.

DirecTV Is THE Service for NFL Fans

For NFL fans, DirecTV is the television provider you gotta have. I’m sure many appreciate the expansion of the Red Zone channel to other pay TV services, but mine (Cox) isn’t one of them. Not to mention, given the Twitter buzz, Comcast’s implementation was lacking in many markets. No HD?! DirecTV’s Sunday Ticket Super Fan … Read more
