My question is… why hasn’t Apple embraced Sonos, not from a compatibility standpoint, but from an acquisition standpoint. Beats has no meaningful presence in home audio. Sonos is the premium, differentiated brand that fits within Apple’s portfolio much better than automotive-related alternatives. I can think of no better use of Apple’s cash.
Assuming they want to be acquired and acquired by Apple and whatever number they had in mind. But, yeah, still can’t figure out the Beats thing… which is even more perplexing if Apple really did kill a connected speaker Beats was working on. Do they figure they don’t need it? Do they have something else in mind? Are they content to let Sonos own that market?
The article lost me at “…in the US, there is almost no paid on-demand music streaming.” Really?
I assume they’re trying to make a point that free tiers on Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Spotify dwarf recurring subs here (if true, but who knows).
Apple may want its own in home speaker. Maybe Apple has plans to copy Amazon by providing both streamed music and a voice controlled speaker like the Echo…No that can’t be it, Apple never copies anything.
