Lifehacker documents their top five BitTorrent software packages:
- uTorrent (Windows)
- Deluge (All Platforms)
- Transmission (Mac OS X/*nix)
- rTorrent (*nix)
- Vuze (All Platforms)
As someone who steers (mostly) clear of P2P file sharing networks, when dabbling on the dark side I use (and recommend) the simple BitTorrent client built into the cross-platform Opera web browser download manager (pictured above) in conjunction with the Pirate Bay. What about you?
I mostly use uTorrent because it has rss built into it.
uTorrent.
uTorrent because there’s a Windows Home Server add-in for it.
transmission for the mac all the way
uTorrent, it is so small, protable, and easy to use. I have used it for awhile now.
UTorrent is good. I have also used Miro and VLC as combined client/schedulers/players.
…I leech neighborhood WiFi to do all my Torrenting! “Leave no trace” as they say. :)
Oh, I see how it is Moman – you block your kids from IM and MySpace at the router so you can save that bandwidth for your fiendish BitTorrent habit. ;)
µTorrent and peer guardian are the way to go.
uTorrent on the PC – it’s very lightweight and fast. If you need something cross-platform with lots of bells and whistles, I used to use Azureus (now called Vuze) but it’s much heavier-weight.
Back in good ol’ days when we had power in Houston, it was uTorrent for me. Azureus/Vuze was everyone’s pick awhile back but it got bloated and started taking way too many resources.
transmission. it has a web server so you can monitor torrents from your iphone.
utorrent. I even got it working in linux with wine. But I’m mostly in windows anyway, so utorrent!
I might’ve perhaps used Vuze yesterday to acquire an old Mac operating system that is no longer commercially available
Still using Azureus/Vuze with the built-in peer guardian plugin, as well as a speed scheduler to kick the bandwidth up at night when it won’t bother anyone as much…
Should probably look at uTorrent sometime soon, but the standalone Peer Guardian barfed on my last PC at some point, so not sure. Also, the plugins are nice. Can live without the fabulous new Vuze front-end of course…
got utorrent want to ad more.got a few hate notes went i used vuze.like utorrent no complaints few years now.cant be to safe they say.
