XM Vista Gadget

I may not always adore my Vista media center, but Microsoft got it right with the sidebar. And I just learned about a worthy XM gadget over on Addicted to Digital Media. I’ve only played with ((XM Online Radio)) a few minutes, but it’s a keeper – the widget is simple and works well. In addition to core playback functionality, it also links to related YouTube videos, lyrics, etc. Though, I’m perfectly content just listening to my favorite stations (above) without the extra browser tab.

In other online music news, Yahoo will be shuttering their download service later this year in favor of Rhapsody’s. Wonder what that means to all the Sansa Connect owners out there?

  1. A VERY RELIABLE source has just informed me the Sansa Connect owners are SOL. Not sure how many this impacts, but if it comes to pass it’s pretty crappy. I can’t even say a Microsoft acquisition of Yahoo would have helped in this situation, as MS has a history of abandonment too – their whole PlaysForSure initiative was dumped when they released the Zune. This is the sort of thing that keeps Apple in power.

  2. Another obvious question is what happens to any music you bought from the Yahoo Music service? Will they be issuing refunds? Will the music cease to work like Google’s videos (and why is Google Video still there after all this time anyway)? Should make anybody collecting music in copy protected form shudder a little…
