Robo- I have to admit, I still laugh every time I hear the words “major award”. I was looking forward to hear what you had to say about dual disc players, but with the Warner announcement today, I guess it’s pretty much a moot point. Looks like Hd-DVD canceled their press conference as well. I like HD-DVD and have the Xbox 360 add on, but if this ends the format war, that’s fine with me.
Seems like the smart money is on Blu-ray. HD DVD may or may not survive (with enough studios producing content), but Blu-ray surely won’t be going away at this point.
As far as the dual-disc players, they’re still cost-prohibitive for the mainstream. May as well buy a PS3 and an HD DVD player for the same money. Though, at this point, I don’t think I’d recommend HD DVD to anyone unless they can get in on a $99 deal like I did. Even then, I’d probably say stick with DVD until Blu-ray hardware prices drop (if price is a factor).
I’ve only had my HD DVD player about a month, but I’m now thinking of ebay-ing it after CES and picking up a PS3.
Engadget is reporting that HD-DVD canceled their CES presser. If Apple piles on with Blu-Ray support in new Mac Pros and a roadmap for BD support in notebooks, HD-DVD would be on the ropes.
I’m not sure I agree with u guys (and girl) – my opinion is that with Microsoft and studios pouring support to HD-DVD it may have the edge over BlueRay.
But we’ll see… I keep thinking Sony – aka – BetaMax…

One last thought – Sony also brought us the UMD for PSP… Maybe Sony got it right this time with BR – but I still have my doubts.
As it turns out the text on the badge itself doesn’t really matter. It’s the color of and text on the plastic (or nylon) badge holders that grants you access.
