For those of you wondering when the Comcast-Motorola-TiVo will hit, Reuters is reporting:
Digital video recorder company TiVo Inc said on Tuesday the roll-out of its services is a “little behind” schedule. “We’re waiting for word any time now that the first non-Comcast employee will begin to get the service,” TiVo Chief Executive Tom Rogers said at the Natixis Bleichroder conference.
The delays don’t really concern me at this point (what’s another month or so when you’re a year late?), but I’m very interested in learning how soon other regions will receive the TiVo option after the initial New England launch.
Were waiting for word any time now that the first non-Comcast employee will begin to get the service,??? TiVo Chief Executive Tom Rogers said at the Natixis Bleichroder conference.
So are we Tom, so are we.
I’m just wondering if I should wait for this, (and wait, and wait) or bite the bullet and get one of the lower-cost HD TiVos. I hate that Comcast DVR so much…
If you’re not in New England, I wouldn’t count on seeing the Comcast TiVo in your area before spring… could even be later. Engineering/installing the head-end schtuff to talk to TiVo units in the field is probably no simple task. Not to mention they’ve got to get the staff (technical, support, installers) up to speed. So if they’re waiting to see how New England does before expanding the rollout, it could be quite some time.
I don’t know what the interface looks like since I originally saw it in action last January at CES, but I prefer the stand-alone TiVo look and feel. And hey, supposedly you’ll have Multi-Room Viewing and TiVoToGo available next month on the HD.
Dave, here is my write up of the Rogers’ interrogation today…

I say in there that the more important issue is the need to slowly ramp up because the cable systems will inevitably have glitches as usage/scale increases.
So the time frame to the bank with the check is a little bit out there.
Also, I don’t like the total avoidance of sub projections on TiVo’s side. I’d like to know if they have any of their own.
The whispers tell me that the Comcast TiVo will hit later this month or early next month in New England. We shall see…
With all this waiting, I’ve actually become accustomed to Comcast’s DVR interface. See what you’ve gone and done Comcast! But on the flip side, now that I’m used to the interface, Comcast is bound to change it, and TiVo is the next change!
MultiChannel News said that 2nd week of November is the launch date – http://multichannel.com/blog/100000410.html#1100015310
So which Motorola DVRs will be supported? Presumably I should haul my 5 year old cable box in to Newton or Needham, but which is the best (non-HD) model to get instead?
Are you friggin’ serious? I think you should ban yourself from mentioning any Comcast news ever again until it’s REAL, not VAPOR.
Comcast sucks. They’re a stupid company with stupid people. Everyone who works there is incompetent, lazy and demoralized. Nobody in that company cares about customers or anything else. They kill kittens as a hobby.
