WeaKnees (a ZNF sponsor) has acquired a bunch of refurb Humax DVD burning TiVo units (DRT400). They can be had with the stock hard drive for $49 after rebate. $100 more gets you up to 350 hours of SD recording (versus 40). We’ve been very happy with the larger-capacity DRT800 (now in the bedroom) for several years as both a TiVo and DVD player/burner… though having single tuner has annoyed on occasion.

I roll with 2 RS-TX20’s in my fleet (got ’em when Best Buy had that coupon glitch a few years back, each for $100). Great when discs were the thing, now I just TDM from them.

That’s an excellent deal. I have a Humax Series 2 without the burner, and mine’s been a great unit. I may need to get myself one of these…
My use of TiVoToGo seriously declined once I got this – It’s much more efficient to burn a show to two this way (for friends/family). I appreciate the TiVo controls/interface when watching DVDs too.
But with only one tuner and my bedroom TV being HD, I’m not sure what to do. We currently have the Humax and a HD Moto cable box (not DVR) connected and flip between them – I’d say less than ideal for a bedroom set. (The TV doesn’t have a built in ATSC tuner – otherwise, I would have skipped the cable box. Being an early adopter can bite you like that…)
Best part is you can still get a lifetime TiVo subscription on these units for $299. See: http://www.weaknees.com/humax-lifetime.php?popup
