TiVo’s 2018 “Game Skip” experiment appears to have been so successful that the DVR pioneer will once again invert their commercial skip functionality to spotlight Super Bowl ads. As described last year:
Everyone knows that [the Super Bowl] commercials are some of the best, highest quality commercials of the year. So, we’re going to tag the game backwards, with the commercials and the halftime show marked as if it were the program, and the game marked as if it was the commercial. As usual, the SKIP function will not show up until after the game has finished. But, once the green SKIP icon shows up next to your recording of the game, you can watch the recording and use the SKIP or D button to jump to the commercial segments quickly.
From TiVo VP Ted Malone on Facebook:
Yes, we are bringing back Game Skip just like last year. Record the game, and it should get the reverse SKIP tags within 30 minutes of the end of the game!
“Within 30 minutes of the end of the game..” Meh. That takes the fun out of which commercial wins!
They should make this start 15 min after the game starts.
Wow, so Tivo thinks I’m going to record 4 hours of a sporting event to watch the ads I can see on YouTube in less time than it takes Tivo to add skip to the recording?
Wow…true business savvy that got Tivo where it is today…in a deep dark hole where no one knows they are there.
In wonder if TiVo charges the ad people something for this . . . . ;)
