Verizon has begun alerting customers that an agreement with the Weather Channel could not be reached… and, thus, the channel has been dropped from my FiOS TV lineup. Not only can’t I remember the last time I tuned the Weather Channel, I view its ongoing presence as something of an anachronism in this day an age. Although, apparently there are a number of people who do appreciate their on-air personalities and turning routine weather events into mass hysteria highly marketable content. Should you still turn to cable for atmospheric updates, in its stead, AccuWeather is now available (on channel 619) — as photographed by Parker below.
And, with this move behind us, perhaps Verizon can find the cash to finally add BBCA to the Preferred HD tier. ;)
I saw this notice and thought, “What? No weather channel. Where would I get the weather?”
But as I thought about it, I realized that I had not watched that channel in years. Like many specialized channels then started to try to do other programming. Remember when MTV actually played music videos. It is amazingly frustrating to go to the weather channel to find out about the weather and have some reality TV show on.
Though, I think they really lost me when they started to name blizzards.

I saw this notice, and my thoughts were more ominous. “Oh my god. What if Verizon knows something no one else knows? What if this means there will be no more weather?”
I had several One Passes setup on my TiVo for TWC. I guess I will need to cancel them now. They can’t come to an agreement with TWC but they have no problem with the local sports channels and charging me extra money for them. Even though I don’t watch them. I watched TWC more. But I can’t opt out of those local sports channels to save some money.
I love the weather channel, even though I also use various weather apps on my phone. Many of our friends and family watch the Strangest Weather on Earth programs as well as the ones one planets! For what we pay every month, my husband and I (long-time Verizon customers) are dropping Verizon!
Check out the Weather Channel app on the Apple TV, weather and a lot of WC shows.
I checked out the new Accuweather channel last light. What a PoC. The audio wasn’t even in sync.

Interesting that they went with the Accuweather channel and not the somewhat new Weather Network channel. I sometimes watch the Weather Network via their Roku channel.
I gave up on the Weather Channel years back. The problem, much like other channels, is that they do little reporting of actual weather and, instead, do all sorts of reality programming now. That’s awesome, their channel is the same as every other cable channel now.
I also always hated their website. I don’t mind the odd ad or two but they always made their pages busy with ads. I just use NOAA (noaa.gov) now.
If you want an alternative to TWC, WeatherNation is good. My local NBC station broadcasts it on one of their sub channels. You can also stream it with Roku. It’s basically how TWC used to be. On Roku you get the local weather with a stream of WeatherNation in an inset and, if you like, you can select that and get a full screen stream of the broadcast.

OK. This baffles me. Why would you want to watch “weather” on The Weather Channel when you could watch such beguilingly titled reality shows like Fat Guys in the Woods or American Super/Natural instead?
Please give us the Weather Channel back! The Accuweather channel is terrible! Come hurricane season here in Florida, this should be interesting to say the least…..Maybe we will consider giving up Verizon FiOS TV!

This is insane. Am I going to have to drop to get the weather channel? This Accuweather is totally bogus. You’re telling me two major companies can’t agree on this. For all I pay for Verizon and with all the garbage on, the least they can do is give us the Weather Channel.
I am in a tornado watch. I turn on AccuWeather and get the forecast for Saulsburg, MD.

I miss the Weather Channel that I had on Fios! I have access to Accu Weather info on the local widget from channel 49 and can get local weather on the internet 24/7. The Weather Channel gave Much More than just daily weather reports. I really enjoyed the Cantore Stories and much of the weather history shows. It was well written and very informative. I would hope that you could reach a contract in the future.
