Everything… other than date and price.
It looks like a TiVo HD.
Allow me to pour one out for Windows Media Center. Removing extender functions of the Xbox and Windows 8 extender limitations kills it even more dead than it had been. On the plus side, this should keep guide data flowing for the foreseeable future.
I just do not understand Microsoft’s thinking here. GoogleTV failed miserably with this plan.
The Samsung device sounds great if it supports location networked video and has a good app selection.
I think this will work fine as an update to the existing XBox with improved Kinect and more powerful gaming. But as Nilay points out in his article:
You can remember why you might not have been hot on this idea before. Unless Microsoft announces HDMI or network connections to a reasonable set of DVRs and cable boxes, we’ll be stuck with IR blasters that don’t always work (so the TV may be on a different channel than the XBox thinks it is), no way to tell XBox to search or playback DVR content (since it won’t know what’s on your DVR), etc. All the obvious failings of the Google TV. At least Google announced integration with Dish when they launched, even if they never followed up on that with other partnerships.
Ugh. And I can guarantee they’ll be issues with the two-hop HDMI with certain set tops (Scientific Atlanta/Cisco ones if my memory serves) when watching protected content just like there was with Google TV.
Anon-Dam, it sure does look like a TivoHD! I like the look though.
PeteyNice-The Xbox One won’t be an extender for WMC?! I was wondering about that but didn’t see any information that the Xbox One would not be an extender. If not, like you said, pour out a little liqua!
Glenn-I’m holding out hope that the Xbox One will at least work with Tivo…just do it better than the Wii TVii.
We use xbox 360’s as Media Center Extenders instead of Cable Boxes on all of our TV’s fed by one HD Homerun Prime for all protected cable TV channels. Works fantastic! So, the ONE without MCE will be a no go for us. We were excited about the new Kinect, but without MCE we won’t be buying any.
