While I imagine Kodak was hopeful of refreshing their semi-ruggedized Playsport Flip-style video camera prior to the holidays, I suppose it’s better late than never? Incidentally, I did exchange emails with Kodak this past fall wondering when/if there might be a new model… as I frequently recommend v1 (Zx3, ~$125) over the various Flip cams. On sheer specs, the new model appears quite similar to it’s predecessor – 1080p and waterproof up to 10′. Plus, I assume it continues to utilize SD cards and provide image stabilization.
Additionally, Kodak’s Pulse line of WiFi-connected photo frames sees a slight refresh. Like the Playsport, the Pulse is something we (and GeekTonic) also frequently recommend to our peers… and their parents. It’s simple, effective, and attractive. The updated SKUs (7″, 10″) feature a proximity sensor and enhanced online capabilities, including the ability to respond via email to photo senders from the frame with (possibly lame) canned replies.
Engadget’s got more Kodak pictures, more products, and the press release. But as to the specifics, like when these ship and how this Playsport is different/better from the current Playsport, we’ll have to wait for Mari to corner the Kodak reps in Vegas.
