HTC Legend is my new Hero

I’m a massive fan of HTC’s Hero smartphone, my favorite Android device to date. That is until this afternoon when I took loan of the HTC Legend, which is essentially a revamped Hero, uni-body-style aluminum casing included. Doesn’t it look fitting next to a Macbook?

I’ve only played with device for about an hour and so far it’s definitely a little more responsive than the Hero and HTC’s updated Sense UI hasn’t lost any of its appeal. Just going through the setup process shows an eye to detail and focus on user experience that I’ve come to expect from HTC. As a result, it took only a few minutes to have Gmail, Google Calendar, Contacts, Twitter and Facebook synced and pulling in updates, all over-the-air — and I’m good to go.

Fantastic.

  1. HTC’s build quality is just all around outstanding. No idea when the Legend is coming to the US, but I’m 85% certain of jumping to the Nexus One this month if it’s released on Sprint. But, the longer they dilly dally, the more likely iPhone 4.0 OS will be revealed which might just encourage me to stay put with the shoddy AT&T.

  2. Hey Dave,
Not sure if you’ve used the Pre which also does google contacts, facebook, syncing. But do you have a rough idea of what aspects of synergy would I be giving up with the an android phone like the Legend?

  3. Martin going from the Pre to Android is like going from Windows 7 to Windows ME….You just don’t want to do it. After spending time with the high level of polish and smoothness of the Pre, Android feels very lacking. But to answer your question about Synergy vs Android, you would lose your Yahoo cal and contacts, LinkedIn, and AIM info.

  4. Kevin Tofel (of jkOnTheRun) loaned me his Pre for over a month. And I’ve got to say the beauty is only skin deep. Dig deeper and the UI seems (to me) incomplete. Also, I find the hardware quality lacking. Both in my unit and a work buddy who had to have his replaced. More importantly, webOS does not have the app ecosystem of the iPhone or Android. Given their market penetration, they probably never will.

I’ve been a Palm fan and owner for years, since the greyscale days, and I’ve even collaborated with them when I was as Sling. But I’ve got to say their future isn’t bright. Given earnings and Verizon’s firesale, I suspect the company will see layoffs later this year. :(

  5. Its way past time to upgrade my T-Mo MDA and my wife’s Samsung-something.

WAF: Wife wants “iphone-like” functionality, but refuses to go back to AT&T. Likes T-Mo.

My real preference would be iphone 4.0 on T-Mo, but who knows when that will happen?

Tell me, Z and ZNF readers, what to get?
