Want to test Windows 7 Media Center?

Microsoft is polling members of the Green Button community to find potential beta testers for Windows 7 Media Center. You can learn something from a poll like this and as I read through the questions, I noticed an emphasis on satellite TV – which further confirms the DirecTV support coming in Windows 7. Here are the instructions for completing the survey and putting your name in the hat to be a beta tester:

If you are chosen as a Media Center beta tester, we will follow-up with an email when a beta will be available. Please take a moment to complete the following instructions to access this survey.

1.       Go to http://connect.microsoft.com.

2.       Please enter the following invitation code on the Connect main page, where it says “Were you invited to join Connect?”: WMC-JM7K-RRM6
3.       Complete Survey.

You are only allowed to complete this survey once. Please chose just one (1) dedicated PC for testing when responding to this survey.

  1. More than DirecTV will be coming to Windows. I’ve heard independently from three sources that a DISH Network box will provide television content as well.

Glad to see the Zune mentions in the survey. I’d really like to see MS pull more of their digital media properties closer together.

    Hells no.

How much can I pay to ensure I never have to interact with another Microsoft product ever again, both personally and professionally? Where’s that web page?

  3. Todd, have I told you lately how much I love your positive outlook and optimism? ;)

Speaking of Windows, I’m looking to pick up a copy of Vista to run in Boot Camp. Why is it so expensive? $230 is way too much (via Microsoft’s new online store), though I did find the OEM version for $100 at NewEgg. Microsoft should just give me a copy so I can continue blogging about them and products that run on Windows.

  5. Why MS can’t integrate Xbox + Zune is beyond me. Who the heck wants two marketplaces? Just follow what Apple did with AppleTV & iPods.

@ Dave: I think, I have spare versions of both 32 & 64-bit Vista Ultimate that I got for letting them spy on me for 3 months. Drop me an email & let me know which version you want and I’ll send you the license key (disks are non-SP1 so you’re probably better off downloading an up-to-date ISO from somewhere)..

  6. “…Why MS can’t integrate Xbox + Zune is beyond me..”

Because Misery=money ( and they can “double dip” like the mobile phone carriers do, charging for both incoming and outgoing calls )

  7. @ Todd: if MS wants to take on iPod, they need Zune+Xbox integration. I’m sure they’d sell a few more Zunes if they’d integrate it with 360.
