All About Netflix

I hereby declare August 14th, 2008 as Netflix Dysfunction Day. I woke up this morning to a notification that my Netlix account would be upgraded (yay), followed by a notification that Netflix isn’t actually shipping any discs (boo). Normally, a couple day delay wouldn’t ruffle my feathers… However, I’m knee-deep in an HBO Wire marathon and had expected my next disc to ship on Tuesday and arrive yesterday – though it hasn’t actually yet left their facilities. So I did something I haven’t done in years and purchased a DVD (box set). The question is: How’ll I recycle the Season 2 discs in a few days?

  1. Funny, I got that settlement notice about 2-3 months ago, and my June month was upgraded (as was july and august for that matter – so maybe it isn’t just the shipping systems that have issues)

    :-)

  2. All this happened on the same week that I finally left Blockbuster and joined Netflix. I signed up Sunday night, and none of my queued dvd’s have shipped. Each day, my queue says that the my first three dvd’s will be mailed the next day, but that next day never comes.

Not a good week to change to Netflix, I guess.

  3. Its funny, I got that same email when I woke up and got really worried. But it didnt matter, as soon as I got home, 21 on Blu-Ray was waiting for me

  4. Same here… got the e-mail that my discs didn’t ship as planned, and I would receive a credit, came home to two discs in the mailbox… go figure.

  5. How far are you in the Wire? I’ve got Season 2 discs 4 and 5 at home right now that I’m not going to get to until the Olympics are over. I wonder if I can mail them to you on Netflix’ dime. :) Peerflix’ing Netflix.

Maybe Feedflix can help Netflix get their data back. :)

  6. @Dave Appreciate the offer, but I had picked up the box set before I posted. Was $34.99 at Best Buy, $20 off list.

@Brent Yah, I’m really enjoying the show. But violence and foul language don’t bother me – not sure, how it’s play in your household. Plus I’m a long-time Maryland resident (it’s set in “Bawlmore”) and have had some exposure to law enforcement in my previous IT career. I’d probably still like it anyway – mostly good acting, complex plot, lots of shades of grey.

  7. So I try to be good and stop using BitTorrent, and use Netflix instead, but then I should expect Netflix is gonna take my money from me and give me nothing in return?

…why shouldn’t I just pull every episode of The Wire ( and Burn Notice for that matter ) off of BitTorrent again?

  8. So, any inside news as to what went wrong? Was it simply an operations software release gone wrong inside of NetFlix?

  9. They haven’t said – but for it to take out email notification along with physical shipment and in multiple locations, I have to think there was a software issue at the crux of it.
