Navigon GPS Software Update

navigon-update.png

For those who cashed in on the Black Friday Navigon deal as I did, you may want to log into your web account for a minor software update. It doesn’t resolve any routing issues, but does offer:

  • Easier POI searches
  • Improved voice guidance
  • Text-to-Speech (TTS) enhancements
  • User interface improvements

navigon-2100.gifThe install was painless – just dragging a folder onto the Navigon SD card. Though next month they intend to release an automated software widget for needed future updates. POI searching still needs help, and there are those occasional routing issues. However, I’ve got more confidence in the Navigon folks addressing these issues than I did with my former Mio. I could have played it safe on Black Friday when we also bought three TomTom One units (for Melissa and our moms), but I was swayed by the sexy hardware and UI. As I often am.

  1. Dave – What mio did you have. Ironically, I just took back the Navigon 2100 because the of routing issues and sluggish touch screen – and am now looking into the Mio 230.

  2. I had the C310x. I believe the 230 has newer maps and I returned my 310 before I received an update. Though both the Mio 230 and Navigon 2100 has too few POIs. FYI you may be able to slightly speed up the UI/touchscreen on the Navigon by turning off animations.

  3. I really like TomTom’s, that is nice that you got them for your moms – I use the ONE XL-S and I love it! TTS is the best!

  4. Jim, I caught this on Techbargains – maybe time to pull the trigger?

TigerDirect has the Mio DigiWalker C230 Portable GPS Navigation System, featuring a 3.5″ touchscreen LCD, pre-loaded Tele Atlas maps with over 1 million POI, and Text to Speech, for a low $119.99 after rebate. $8.49 Shipping. Tax in FL, IL, NC. $40 rebate Exp 2/29/08

  5. Thanks Dave – I picked up the Mio C320 at rat shack on sale last week – so far so good – I like the widescreen.. but the thing I do not like is that I cant save a route on the unit.

  6. Where can I get the Navigon 2100 software upgrade as some new lanes are not showing up in my gps?

  7. Im wondering if you can help me with a little problem im having… i just recently ordered a navigon 2100 but oddly it didn’t come with a SD card. I was told that I can just download the software off the Navigon site, but the original software isn’t on the site. Do you know where I can download the original software for the navigon 2100?

  8. I just won the 2100 in a drawing. I went to the webpage and signed up and downloaded the update. I don’t see a differance. It doesn’t pick up my targert/kohls/price chopper stores. But the shopping center before it picks up on it. I don’t know why.

  9. I have a navigon 2100 and tried to update it via the 5 hour download. The upload fried my SD card and the 2100 is now a paperweight. I have purchased new software via CD so there are no corruption issues, but the software won’t load. Does anyone have any ideas or should I just start flaming Navigon. Even though Navigon’s upgrade proceedure caused the problem they will provide no help because my unit is not under warranty. I know they are pulling out of North America and I think that is great – we don’t need shoddy products and customer no service in the USA.

  10. I have the Navigon 2100. It has been pretty good so far. The latest (April 08) update is version 1.2. I had no problem with this.

First remove the SD card from the unit and copy the whole thing into a separate folder on your PC.

Download and run the software update. I installed it on my PC and just simply copied it onto the SD card.

Put the card back in and it works fine.

  11. Oh, I re-formatted the SD card as the update will not over-wright anything and it runs out of space. So start with a blank SD card.

  12. I purchased a Navigon 2100 max when they were on sale at TigerDirect. The main reason I purchased it was for the Live Time traffic. This feature might be helpful if you have no idea where you are going or the traffic tendencies for an area. I found that it often tried to send me on the worst possible route. It is generally slow to update and not really user friendly. The thing that stands out the most for me is the awful customer service (really no customer service). My wife has an older simpler Tom Tom and her unit hands down puts the Navigon unit to shame. I will use this unit until it stops functioning but would never buy another Navigon product or recommend anyone buy any of their products.

  13. I have a Navigon and I did a wipe / Format and did not get the type info I need to reload …Any advise? It is the next size up from the 3″1/2
