Where’s The Apple iCamera Predictions?

I’ve seen and heard all sort of predictions for an ultraportable Macbook and for new monitors (with iSight cams), perhaps even televisions. But I’m wondering where all the iCamera predictions are? I’m not necessarily saying we’ll see a digital still camera out of Apple at Macworld in 10 days, but it seems like an obvious product category for Apple to move (back) into…

  1. My department way back in grad school had one which I used… So, no – that’s not mine. I swiped the image from the Wikipedia. As far as classic/vintage hardware, I’m guessing the Newton has much more active secondary market and community.

  2. A camera? Really? Not sure why Apple would build one myself. Seems like just putting one in the iPhone that can shoot video would be the thing to do on this front…

Lets just hope for an improved Apple TV, bigger flash iPods, a 3G iPhone, a mini Macbook, disk-based Touches to replace the Classic (probably but not for a while I’d guess), the SDK for the iPhone, the extras from the iPhone on the Touch (like maps, mail).

I’d think the most obvious revolution category would be a multitouch tablet with no keyboard, but that seems kinda unlikely actually and not an obvious success…

  3. I’m sure Apple will debut the thing I least want (record deal with Jay-Z, movie rentals) and completely forget about the thing I most want (DVR all-in-one box)

  4. As far as locks, sounds like the smaller notebook and movie rentals are a done deal. A 3G iPhone is inevitable, but who knows when they’ll announce it. A preannouncement could slow current sales, so they might wait until they’re ready to launch.

As far as software updates, we’ve already know the iPhone SDK is coming soon and seen leaks of iPhone firmware 1.1.3 – but I’m more interested in full-on Exchange support before considering the platform. Apple TV is due for a refresh – would make sense to rollout on-box ordering along with rentals. Rumors of HD Radio stuff out there as well…

Big John, It’s a hard time to enter the DVR business in the US unless you sell boxes directly to the cable or satellite cos. The retail business model hasn’t really been proven and then there’s the whole CableCARD/SDV mess… If someone designs and authorizes a way to integrate SDV tuning into a CableCARD box, I’d feel more positive. So yeah, I agree Apple probably won’t be doing a “traditional” DVR any time soon.

  5. At this point, I’d take an Apple-branded media extender. I even hesitate for that since “Back-To-My-Mac” plays so poorly with my Linksys router, Apple seems bound only to it’s own router.

  6. I don’t think we’ll see a camera from em. I’ve had this debate with a lot of people, the problem is there isn’t enough of an experience differential for them to get involved.

Unlike cell phones, which people generally hate, digital cameras work pretty well. My Canon is a solid workhorse that’s super easy to use.

Plus, iPhoto does a good enough job with everyone else’s hardware anyway…
