Verizon FiOS TV Embraces HD (Mostly in 2008)

Despite the numerous Verizon FiOS TV DVR updates, I’m most frequently questioned on their HD initiatives. Truly, content is king. Here’s a summary of Verizon’s HD announcement:

  • Plans to double HD channel count next spring, with up to 150 HD channels by the end of of 2008.
  • HD video-on-demand begins rolling out this year, with over 1,000 titles expected by the end of 2008.
  • In-home HD streaming functionality scheduled for next year. Not clear if this will require new hardware.

  1. Hopefully they will update the horrible interface while they are at it. Have you heard anything about them allowing users to leverage external storage?

  2. The IMG 2.0 really isn’t that bad. Yes it’s no Tivo, but way better than the Cox or Comcast interfaces I previously had. As for the HD additions, they can’t come soon enough!

  3. Great. More shows that we can record and then have deleted because Verizon STILL has not fixed the known bugs that give us 10 hours of recording capacity. If they cared they would make the capacity fix and get it out. It has been months!
