First Two Season Passes Dropped

Prior to recording even the first episode, I dropped Bionic Woman. And after watching the debut last night of Discovery’s Last One Standing… I dropped it too. LOS is a reality show in which 6 athletes are shipped around the world to participate in “tribal games.” The problem is about half the locales/games involve combat (wrestling, martial arts, stick fighting), and I just don’t see the fitness professional, strongman, BMX racer, etc doing well. As someone who wrestled (and did judo) for many years, perhaps I’m biased – but for this show to work, they need a different sort of contestant with more experience in combat. (A lone kickboxer doesn’t cut it.) Or, they should just drop the whole physical challenge aspect and restrict the show to a fish-out-of-water cultural expose’ – that element was actually entertaining (shaman “healing” the strongman, contestants getting piranha-tooth epilation), whereas the wrestling was just embarrassing. As it stands, Last One Standing is some sort of perverse hybrid. And I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more of these guys gets seriously injured. But maybe that’s their hook?

What shows have you already given up on?

  1. I’m close with Bionic Women, but I haven’t given up hope yet. The second episode was a little better than the pilot. I also almost gave up on Big Bang Theory, but fortunately the second episode was much better. After watching the pilots, I’ve given up on Reaper, Cane, and Big Shot. Chuck and Life are on a short leash and may be deleted soon.

New shows that I know I’m keeping are Journeyman, Moonlight, Aliens in America, Carpoolers, Back To You, Kid Nation, and Pushing Daisies.

  2. I’ve got Season Passes for Chuck, Pushing Daisies, and Reaper but haven’t seen them yet. I’ve been enjoying Journeyman. Not familiar with Aliens in America, and I’m waiting to hear more about Carpoolers and Big Bang Theory before investing.

  3. Enjoying Life, Chuck, Carpoolers, Big Bang Theory and Big Shots. Haven’t had a chance to watch Journeyman, LOS or Cane yet, and after watching two episodes of Reaper, I fear (see what I did there?), it’s not going to make it. I’m assuming since the star is from The Loop which they changed the format on and I guess eventually killed, he’s going to have a hard time finding work after this dies.

  4. Aliens in America is about a family who takes in a Pakistani exchange student. It’s on CW. It was much better than I was expecting (which wasn’t much). This is not great Seinfeld level comedy, but I got some laughs from it.

  5. Enjoying Big Bang Theory, Life, Journeyman, and (gasp) Moonlight. Along with returning Heroes, The Unit, and How I Met Your Mother.

I’ve dropped K-Ville, Carpoolers, and am teetering on Chuck. The plot is just a huge stretch, and not very believable at all. Yvonne Strzechowski is just ridiculously nice to look at.

  6. The whole Big Bang Theory, 2 1/2 Men, How I Met Your Mother, and Rules of Engagement line is a keeper. Only BBT is new, but it fits well with the others (same guy as 2 1/2 Men)

  7. The second episode of Big Bang was great, glad I didn’t give up after the terrible pilot.

Journeyman, I couldn’t make it through 5 minutes of.

Bionic women, is done after one episode and Brian’s comment about ep 2.

    Chuck was absolutely terrible.

  8. The only one that I’ve dropped so far is Back To You. I’ve never been a Kelsey Grammer fan to begin with, but there is no chemistry in this show. I can’t understand why anyone would give up on Reaper. Hands down, it is my favorite new show of the fall. Other then Survivor or 24, I can’t think of another show that I enjoy as much. The storyline is a little bit weak, but the entire show reminds me of Clerks or Mallrats.

  9. I’ve dropped Carpoolers, Kid Nation, Big Bang Theory.

I’m watching Reaper, but it’s just okay. I want to drop Back to You, but the wife is watching so far.

Haven’t watched any of the other new shows. I’ll likely continue to wait to see how they survive before I watch them or delete them.

  10. Dropped Big Shots.

Just saw Pushing Daisies, and it was an interesting premise (but it felt a little like Psyche in the acting, and that’s not a good thing.) I’ll give this a chance.

  11. Probably dropping Chuck. Watched the first episode and literally forgot to watch or record the second.

Reaper stays on for now. Will get bumped if anything better comes along.

Caught most of the first episode of Pushing Daisies. Think I liked it. Jury’s still out. Though I like the actors.

    Still waiting on:
Scrubs – back later this month
    Battlestar Galactica – January 2008
    Lost – January 2008?
    The Riches – March 2008

  12. Dropped K-Ville.

Bionic Woman’s unaired pilot that came out over the summer was way better than the one they used to start the season, so not sure why that happened.

I’m on the verge of dumping up to 20 of my 53 season passes – TV is just an all-around disappointment for the 2nd year in a row.

  13. I saw a few minutes of K-Ville and didn’t even bother setting up the season pass. I’m generally disappointed too and will be digging deeper into Netflix’s collection of TV series that I’ve missed in the past.

  14. Didn’t even try: Bionic Woman (I hated the original)

    Probably Dropping: Kid Nation

    Dropped: Cane <– Ugh!

    Enjoying: Journeyman, Big Bang Theory

    Dropped from Last Year: Shark

Still Enjoying: Heros, Lost, House, Boston Legal, ER

Hope to Enjoy on Return: Battlestar Galactica.

    VERY CLOSE to Dropping: 24

  15. Saw the second episode of Yuck, I mean Chuck.
It was like Terrence Trent D’Arby’s follow-up album.
    Don’t remember it?
    Exactly.

  16. Argh, I’m done with Heroes. I figured things would head downhill after they sold out with last year’s finale and, sure enough, I’m just not interested in where they’re headed. It’s be cool if they’d film the last few episodes of Season 1 as they were originally conceived, so I could personally get some closure before moving on.
