TiVo Wants You On Broadband

As of March 1, Tivo dialed back the number of phone numbers available for daily guide data updates. Given our increasingly wired (and wireless) households, all the broadband features, and the occasional free TiVo adapter promotion… it’s obvious TiVo wants us to connect via the Internet. For those of you still using landlines and having trouble receiving guide date, TiVo suggests:

Choose a new dial-in number. OR Connect your TiVo(R) Series2(tm) or Series3(tm) box to your wired or wireless home network. (It’s easy!)

  1. TiVo doesn’t really have much to do with the number of dialin lines; they use the networks of other companies, much the way AOL, Earthlink, CompuServe, etc. have for a while. My guess is these providers are cutting down the number of dialin lines because they’re seeing sharply reduced use across the board!

  2. Broadband is the way to go. The Tivo wireless adapter is a gem. With amazon unbox up and running, it’s really a value add.

I believe the Series 2.5 should have tivo wireless built in and a slimmer form factor (but still allowing for upgradability!)

No I have no info on anything, just ideas.
