I’m still regularly asked, “Which format will win?” And my answer has never wavered: Blu-ray and HD DVD will co-exist. While the numbers indicate Blu-ray is gaining momentum despite a late launch, I still believe both standards will remain viable… especially with even more talk of multi-format discs and players. Am I right?

Neither. They’ll both fade in light of the next technology. This is a knife fight and the new kid on the block with bring a tank! For now, I’ll just keep enjoying the cheaper and cheaper DVDs that play GREAT on my upconverting DVD player. I WAS the guy jumping on EVERY next big thing but not this one.
It’s +R -R all over.
While one format may dominate, or perhaps both will be supplanted, the technology to play back will be with us for a long time in dedicated playback units and certainly in computer components.
