Ever wonder what goes on in the hallowed halls of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association? Probably not. But a few of us are getting a peek at the first NCTA Blogger Summit. Dave and I are both here, throwing our own questions at CEO Kyle McSlarrow. Some of the things we’ve heard so far:
- It’s a misconception that cable is trying to stop or block video over the Internet. Traditional video is a low-margin or negative-margin business. Cablecos are broadband providers, and see this as an opportunity.
- The a-la-carte issue isn’t going away, but McSlarrow believes the business arguments against it will continue to win the day. (more on this topic another time)
- The pace of change in cable is outstripping the industry’s ability to communicate effectively about it. McSlarrow says it will get better.
