Thinking about it, it was only a matter of time before behemoth Wal-Mart would come out with its own blog. What’s more surprising is how decent a blog it is. Aptly named, “Check Out” is written by a team of Wal-Marters and has a high percentage (so far) of gadget and gaming coverage. Looking for a particular bundle of gaming equipment? Want your voice heard on the Wii shortage this season? Wondering if any of the pre-paid phone deals are worth it? That and more on the Check Out site. And if you get your comments in now before others bombard the site, maybe you can even get the ear of America’s discount chain!
Two other notes. First, it appears the site only went live on December 5th. Second, there’s one blogger dedicated to green/sustainability issues, a cause that Wal-Mart has actively championed and one that has certainly helped the Wal-Mart brand in the PR department.
How can we get objective recommendations from it? They will only talk up what isn’t selling.
Sure they have an agenda, but as someone who does corporate blogging, I also know that we’re talking about individuals here, and not just a faceless corporate behemoth. They’ll write about stuff that’s both interesting to them and useful to Wal-Mart. Plus- you can comment back. How would you ever have gotten your voice heard by Wal-Mart before?
No love for Daily, Amazon’s long-running blog? :)
Good call, Chris. I’m not a regular Amazon Daily reader so it didn’t come to mind. But I’ll start paying closer attention and maybe you’ll get some love in the new year. ;)
