Ouija Tops Diebold?

With 2008 right around the corner we’re in for a slew of tech stories with election-year angles. But it’ll be a challenge to find one weirder than this.

Artist Jonathon Keats has introduced Ouija Vote 2008, a practical work of art demonstrating the theory that the democratic process is actually a mystical algorithm. The application is described as an electronic voting machine prototype “proposed for the 2008 presidential election and beyond.”

Ouija Vote 2008 is a follow-up project to Ouija 2000, a networked virtual Ouija application where multiple players, er participants, determine the answers to critical questions by lightly resting their fingertips on the computer mouse.

Hey, I’m pretty upset about Diebold too, but I’m not ready to turn the fate of the country over to the spirits of the Ouija board.
