While Dave has hemmed and hawed about making the trip out to Vegas, I took him up on an opportunity to replace him in a “friendly fitness competition” hosted at the show by BodyMedia. Along with a dozen other bloggers and tech reporters, I agreed to wear the company’s new BodyMedia FIT Armband throughout CES. The armband tracks my caloric burn data, physical activity, and the steps I take every day in near real-time. It syncs with a mobile app on my Droid Eris over Bluetooth and also communicates with a BodyMedia Activity Manager I’ve downloaded on my computer.
CES is marked every year by an obscene amount of walking both to and from the convention center, and within the halls of the LVCC, the Venetian, and the show’s other event outposts. I expect my steps will tally up pretty rapidly, although I certainly won’t make it out on a run or any other workout this week, which could hamper my competition success.
