TiVo and their Australian partners have slashed DVR hardware prices nearly 30%, from $699 AUD to $499 AUD. And, to sweeten the deal, they’re also throwing in a free TiVo 802.11g wireless adapter along with either $50 cash back or $100 of VOD credit. At some point TiVo also lowered their “home networking package” (TiVoToGo, multi-room viewing) from $200 AUD to $99.
There’s probably two things we can take from this… Our friends Down Under are as price sensitive as we here in the States are and the players aren’t moving the number of units they’d hoped for. As you don’t drop prices when sales are brisk. I imagine it’s also likely TiVo’s mostly ready to blow out the prior generation TiVo HD hardware in favor of the current Premiere platform.
