TiVo Lifetime Service Transfer Has Returned: 2019 Edition

In what appears to be something of a new annual tradition, the compelling TiVo Breeze summer sale has returned.

As with the 2018 edition, the highlight for owners of active, older TiVo hardware is the ability to transfer Lifetime service to a new DVR for all of $100. TiVo further sweetens the deal with about a month of overlapping service to get those recordings and season passes transferred over. Bonus: The four tuner TiVo Bolt will handle cable or over-the-air antenna.

Qualifying customers: Owners of TiVo Series 2, TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD, TiVo HDXL and TiVo Premiere series DVRs with Product Lifetime Service who have connected to a TiVo service between July 22, 2018 and July 21, 2019. Your current box will be deactivated on August 30, 2019.

Potentially complicating your purchasing decision are signs of an incoming line of TiVo Edge hardware. However, TiVo’s core competencies won’t change and Lifetime transfers are a rare bird, indeed.

  1. Waah! Why doesn’t this offer include the Roamio?

If it did I’d do it in a second, just for the 4K and the better UI performance. Hydra is a bit pokey on my Roamio…

  2. Well… if the TiVo Edge is released this year, perhaps a 2020 PLS transfer summer sale would extend to Roamio. Beyond that, they’ve got some interesting promos going on that bundle hardware and service and insurance for a monthly fee — they’re advertising it in the upper right.

  3. My Series 3 went belly-up (dead harddrive) a few months ago. Hopefully it wan’t a year ago. Any special code needed?

  4. bandwagon: Tivo’s had a couple of delays but most releases are fairly predictable to hit the september/october timeframe. They’re more inclined to release a half-baked product, if necessary, than miss the almighty holiday season.

  5. I got a Bolt last year in the lifetime transfer deal, but it has been nothing but trouble. It worked great for a couple of months, then started losing channels or blocky distortion on the channels it can tune. I’ve already had it replaced once and the second Bolt it having similar problems tuning channels.

My Premiere and Roamio continue to chug on, but the Bolt has soured my over a decade long love of TiVo. Suddenlink hasn’t helped the situation by being difficult to work with when it comes to troubleshooting CableCard issues.

  6. Does TiVo have a site tool that allows you to check your device serial number and model to verify your lifetime model is eligible for the subscription transfer to a new model purchase ? I think this is only fair as we later found out “lifetime subscription ” only means for the of an obsolete machine.

  7. TSN (Tivo Serial Number) code is the number from the Tivo you own. Log into Tivo Account to get the TSN from your Tivo. Enter your TSN number in the promo code box without dashes.

  8. Note, campers: TiVo indeed *has* added the Roamio boxes as those qualified for this deal. (See the current sale information page: “Qualifying customers: Owners of TiVo Series 2, TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD, TiVo HDXL, TiVo Premiere and TiVo Roamio series DVRs with Product Lifetime Service or All-In Service Plan who have connected to a TiVo service between July 22, 2018 and July 21, 2019.”)

When you think of it, an easy way for TiVo to pull in some quick cash from people who otherwise might not have wanted to pay the large Lifetime tariff to move to the Bolt platform.

  9. Roamio is included, here’s direct from TiVo site with offer. Clearly Roamio is listed.

*Qualifying customers: Owners of TiVo Series 2, TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD, TiVo HDXL, TiVo Premiere and TiVo Roamio series DVRs with Product Lifetime Service or All-In Service Plan who have connected to a TiVo service between July 22, 2018 and July 21, 2019. Your current box will be deactivated on August 21, 2019. Supplies limited and subject to change. Offer ends August 5, 2019. TiVo reserves the right to terminate this promotion at any time without notice.

  10. The Edge will still require a cable card, correct – so still at least another generation away from that? I’m trying to decide whether to wait or not – and when is the right time to cut cable (I’d go for the OTA, but we come close to using the full 1TB and use more than 4 tuners since I have 3 minis)

  11. Thank you Dave ! I was torn between waiting for the edge or changing to the bolt. I decided to take the plunge as my roamio is too painfully slow now with the hydra interface.

  12. I was curious if there is any benefit to owning a bolt DVR over a roamio DVR if my 4k projector is run off a 4k mini. My other TV’s are 1080 sets. Is there a difference in resolution for recorded TV? Or is the only benefit in streaming apps? I could move the DVR to the projector location if that provides any benefit as well.
Trying to justify an upgrade besides the os speed bump between the two.

  13. Anybody else notice they want you to send back the old device, and to do so by Jan 31, 2019. I mean, I’ll try to fire up the old flux capacitor but no guarantees it won’t end up in 1919 by mistake.

  14. This is frustrating…I connected my old Series 2 about a month ago, and have successfully connected (according to the system) about 10 times, but it doesn’t register as part of the deal — only my Roamio did. I was thinking that it would catch it, as I have missed the last couple of these deals, but the email didn’t include my Series 2 TSN.

  15. Indeed, the ONE promo code they sent me was for my Roamio.
I would have liked to upgrade one of my now-dead S3 models, but no dice (and technically, one of them should qualify because it only just went dead 3 months ago, so it HAS connected to TiVo within the July 2018 – July 2019 period).

  16. UPDATE: HOORAY! I just tried the TSN from the most-recently dead S3 model and the website accepted the code! Now I just have to convince Mrs. Zechman

Also, it looks like the ad copy is a straight-up copy/paste of last year’s offer, since I found another mistake: “When your new TiVo BOLT VOX arrives, contact Customer Service and request to add an All-In Service Plan (your old service will be automatically deactivated on August 21, 2018.)”

    –Dwayne

  17. Read what TiVo said carefully!
If you take it literally it says “Qualifying customers: Owners of…
with Product Lifetime Service or or All-In Service Plan who have connected to a TiVo service between July 22, 2018 and July 21, 2019. Your current box will be deactivated on August 21, 2019.”

It is saying that are boxes will be deactivated on August 21st. It does not say “but that will happen only if we take advantage of this offer.”
It at the very least sounds as if the boxes will be deactivated with whether we take the offer or not!!!

    Am I missing something???

“Qualifying customers: Owners of TiVo Series 2, TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD, TiVo HDXL, TiVo Premiere and TiVo Roamio series DVRs with Product Lifetime Service or All-In Service Plan who have connected to a TiVo service between July 22, 2018 and July 21, 2019. Your current box will be deactivated on August 21, 2019. Supplies limited and subject to change. Offer ends August 5, 2019. TiVo reserves the right to terminate this promotion at any time without notice.”

  18. Actually, that is a really good question. I just assumed this email was horridly written but now I am beginning to wonder: are they going to deactivate all older machines with Lifetime on Aug 21st? I have a Lifetimed Premiere that is just OTA these days. It can’t be, can it — say it ain’t so mister!

  19. I had a couple of premiers (2 out of 4 I own) on life support.. they’d been powered-up and connected to the network, but not to any TVs (their old sets now have Bolts). They stopped showing up as active some time ago on the two bolts and two good premiers. Their TSNs did not work online. I called customer service and was told they had not connected since January and February of 2018, but they gave me an exception and I was able to take advantage of the deal. I’ve got two 500GB (I only do OTA and streaming) on the way now. I did not see anything saying I’d need to send the old boxes back in January as someone else mentioned.

  20. Anyone who feels they have a qualifying box should call TiVo support. Mine would not accept the TSN code when ordering online but, they have an override code and will complete your order if qualified. Especially if you get code not valid when attempting to order.
