Fitbit Inspire HR Hands On

As is often the case, I buy each new Fitbit … and invariably end up disappointed. Yet the Fitbit Inspire HR, which I uncovered last year as a likely Alta successor, strikes a nice balance between form, function, and price. And I’m digging it. In fact, for most, it may be a better option than the more pricey Charge 3. Unlike the Alta, it’s waterproof! And packs the best Fitbit charger ever – a clasp-free, magnetic mount similar to some smartwatches like the Apple Watch.

However, there’s a catch as, at the moment, it’s only available through Fitbit corporate partnerships — think employers and health insurers, sometimes free, sometimes subsidized. I picked mine up from a guy in Florida and, who knows, maybe his employer has been fairly impressed with my step count and resting heart rate.

Hit me in the comments with any questions or photo requests.

Does this involve agreements to let your employer or health provider have your data?

  3. Two notes —

    1) Since posting, Fitbit has released this to sale for all – as I had suggested.
    2) For those receiving through employers, insurers, etc I don’t know what or if any arrangements are in place. An acquaintance of mine ordered his Fitbit through a pretty generic looking partner site linked from his company’s intranet – doubt anything is linked up on the backend for him. But that’s a guess and there could be multiple scenarios. I assume anyone tracking would have to disclose that.
