Refurb Kindle Paperwhite @ $79

While I failed to post on last week’s fantabulous refurb Kindle Fire HDX deal, despite getting in myself, the Paperwhite is similarly on sale now for 24 hours. The $79 refurb

is a pre-owned Kindle Paperwhite that has been refurbished, tested, and certified to look and work like new. Includes a full one-year limited warranty, just like a brand-new Kindle Paperwhite.

Indeed, my recently received HDX looks brand-spanking-new (as we’ve been enjoying ESPN and the FiOS app at the kitchen table, Alpha House in bed). And, as far as Amazon’s e-readers go, the Paperwhite represents the best value – even sweeter at this price point and despite the retired physical page turn buttons. I’ve quite enjoyed my glowing touchscreen reader over the last year, as has Nathan (who?).

  • @d_glynn: The Paperwhite has a higher resolution, illuminated display for better viewing in low-light environments and better build quality. Both models have touchscreens.

  • The Paperwhite is higher resolution than the new Basic one - 212ppi (Carta) versus 167ppi (Pearl). So it's a newer e-Ink display. Also the Paperwhite is slightly thinner but slightly heavier, has the all-important lighting, and I believe I read the touchscreen is superior. Both have special offers. In my opinion, the light makes a world of difference in any brightness and is worth the upgrade.

Incidentally, I just gave Mom my Paperwhite as the physical page turn buttons on her discontinued basic model are failing and she reads more than I do. As it's out of warranty, the best Amazon could do was offer a refurb discounted Paperwhite upgrade for $87 and I'd been percolating our next move. Obviously, $79 is even better. I wish they had the older model in stock for her or that the Voyage had better reviews. Hm.
