The $90 TiVo Stream accessory that brings placeshifting to the TiVo Premiere and base Roamio is being updated for remote viewing. Like the the Roamio Pro/Plus, both your live television programming and TiVo-ed recordings can be viewed on iPhones or iPads both within and now beyond the home. Assuming your cable company plays along, as HBO is universally locked down and even basic pay channels have been blocked by the likes of Time Warner Cable. But for those mostly in the clear (thank you FiOS), this is a nice upgrade to an already compelling device. The software started rolling out to units last night and all should receive it within the next few weeks. (Thanks pcbrew!)

Yay! I wonder how I'll know...
Here's what Margret had to say:
If you are anxious to see if your TiVo Stream was one of them, then WHILE CONNECTED TO YOUR HOME NETWORK you'll need to:
- start the TiVo iOS app on your iPhone or iPad
- go into Settings > Streaming System Information
- select "Make Service Call" (it will turn gray)
- wait until the "Make Service Call" is black again
- select "Restart streaming device" and wait awhile for the restart to complete
- go to Settings > Streaming Setup
*IF* your box was in the first group to be authorized for the update, then the "Set Up Streaming?" screen will have a checkbox for "Set up out-of-home streaming". Check that box, and complete setup.
I was really looking forward to this for 2 seconds until I remembered that I have Time Warner Cable.
