The TiVo Slide QWERTY Remote Giveaway

TiVo has produced arguably the best dual purpose QWERTY-capable remote in the Slide. Granted, there’s not much competition (yet) in this burgeoning space. But TiVo has introduced something special — I expect its utility will only grow as they modernize and expand their online apps. Not only does the shrunken “peanut” allow you to type via Bluetooth (and bundled USB dongle), the Slide offers traditional IR support for basic universal and learning functions to control your television or accessories.

To expand upon my original coverage a bit, I’ve confirmed the TiVo Slide remote can be paired with hardware beyond the included Bluetooth accessory. By simultaneously holding down the TiVo and B buttons, the remote enters pairing mode. And I had no problem linking it to my Mac laptop. In theory, this process should also allow you to use the Slide with a PS3. However, to get a Slide going again with a Series3, TiVoHD, or Premiere, you’d have to re-pair it with the USB dongle by holding down it’s lone button and once again using the Slide process above.

I’ve seen quite a few comments concerning the Slide’s $90 price tag (along with disappointment in not being able to easily control multiple TiVo units). And, indeed, it doesn’t come cheap. So, fortunately for you, we’re giving away our review sample. But wait, there’s more. TiVo is also gifting a TiVo Slide… each and every day, for 30 days. Check out their details here.

Entering our TiVo Slide giveaway is as easy as it gets, simply leave a comment. (US residents in the lower 48 only, please.) We’ll choose the winner at random in a few days.

  1. I would definitely love to get my hands on one. I wish TiVo offered some type of upgrade discount on these for people who bought Premieres.

  2. Hmmm…wonder if the keyboad is worth leaving my Harmony for. I also wonder why the mobile version of Dave’s sit complains that my comment was too short.

  3. Seeing as TiVo hasn’t created equivalent IR commands and hasn’t added telnet keyboard commands to any model except the Premier, I can’t use my universal remote for keyboarding. So this is my best option to avoid spending $90.

  4. definitely intrigued by the slide. Would love to pair it with my Series 3 until I can upgrade to a Premiere!

  5. It’s a little expensive. Should come with the unit. Tivo needs to step up it’s offering. Where’s Pandora?

  6. Would love to have this, but not for $90! There’s a Tivo app in the Android market place that allows me to use my phones QWERTY keyboard for $1. That has been working fine for me so far.

  7. I’d love one too…the $90 price tag is a bit steep for a remote. $50 seems more reasonable, better yet a free one for loyal customers! :-)

  8. I think the remote looks like it would be cool, but too rich for my blood. I would however take a free one!

  9. Want want want. My LCD television interferes with the IR remote, so a Bluetooth-based remote would be really useful for me.

  10. I’d like one of these but cost is way too high for the limited number of times I need a Qwerty keyboard. Besides, usually 2-3 letters in, and TiVo knows what I am looking for. Nevertheless, if I won one, I would gladly take it. Thanks Dave.

  11. sure would make wishlist creation easier! Thanks for the generous offer…… I hope I get to take you up on it.

  12. After the pains of the premiere unit that my wife and I have, it would be nice of Tivo to offer the remote for free.

  13. I sort of feel bad entering. I feel like I’ve won every other TiVo related giveaway you’ve had… That said, this looks like a pretty sweet remote, so thanks!

  14. Totally agree that a more appropriate/reasonable price for this remote would be $50…..maybe we’ll see it drop to that level if/when TiVo fails to move many.

  15. I was going to plop down my $90 this Saturday but now I will hold off until I receive my email notification that I am the winner.

    Thanks Dave.

  16. I’m interested, but I’m wondering what the battery life is. I bought a TiVo Glo remote a couple years ago when they came out, but went back to using my original TiVo remote because the “Glo” seems to eat batteries.

  17. Well, I don’t have a premiere, but it looks sweet for my PS3 and I bet it’ll work great with an iPod touch too.

  18. Id like one of these. Wonder if the small size will make a diff in how it feels in the hand. I love the peanut remote.

  19. Would love to win one – sticking to my good old Series 3 for the time being, so I’m happy they’ll let it work on that :)

  20. You can’t lose if you don’t play.

Tivo hates their users and forces folks like me to suffer through their sucky my-tivo web pages.

Maybe this remote would be better?
