The Best iPad Stand?

I’ve had a loaner iPad on hand the last month or so, and one of my first goals was to track down a case and stand (on my dime). As innovative as Apple’s 10″ tablet may be, it’s been awkward to comfortably hold and transport safely… without at least one accessory of some sort.

As I never found a case I loved and knowing the iPad 2 is coming soon, I chose not to invest in any sort of exterior protection. However, I tracked down a simple and versatile iPad stand in the Griffin Loop ($30). Not only has the weighted plastic base been an effective iPad stand around the home, in portrait and lanscape, upright or reclined, I suspect it’s got a bit more longevity than various alternate solutions… And should accomodate tablets other than the original iPad. So, while my iPad is going back shortly, I’m hanging onto the Loop.

  1. The response before me from Chris Miller is dead on the Belkin flip blade is the top portable iPad stand I’ve had it for months it’s solid and when it opens it seems like hydraulics open it up it’s really good

  2. FlipBlade looks much more portable beyond the home. Does it have a reclined, flatter typing position? I kinda like that option with the Loop. Although when I’m a serious iPad owner, I suspect I’ll invest in a BT keyboard or keyboard case.

On Twitter, one of my followers also mentioned the ZeroChroma stand. But it’s a precise fit for the existing model…

  3. This stand looks cool for tables, I have the ZooGue Case which I just couldn’t imagine my iPad without it, because it can actually be set at any angle.

  4. Good call on the Loop. I’ve owned one since June and it is simple and effective. Small knock: when the iPad is positioned upright (portrait), a tap or push from behind can cause the iPad to fall forward off the loop. You have to hit it fairly well, but it can (and does) happen. Otherwise, works like a champ, and can also house an iPad with additional casing/protection.

  5. I’ll have to look at this stand. I’m a huge fan of the Griffin iCurve, which has held several of my laptops on my desk at work over the years. It puts the screen at a better height and makes room for a keyboard.

  6. I’m not buying the design. The sturdiest I’ve seen so far are from Williams-Sonoma (with speaker), Lux – minimalist design and Rain in UK.
