  1. “Deadwood may return…as a movie!”

While everyone is excited over this vaporware, well worth noting that Soderbergh’s The Knick is now available on HBO Go / Now, and will remain there for the next two and a half months.

It’s the best ‘down in the mud’ period series since Deadwood, and purely visually, is even better. Well worth a binge.

(Not as much swearing, of course. But between Soderbergh directing, running the camera for every shot, and relying heavily on period lighting, it’s damn tasty.)

  2. “Headline writers think unannounced Comcast video service Watchable will rival YouTube.”

    Not just YouTube. Facebook too!

  3. Re: the Google router.

Obviously, we all understand the lack of ethernet jacks to be contempt for customers.

But I’m surprised the lack of outrage about the lack of admin tools. iOS and Android only? Really? I understand the lack of OS X / Windows clients, but no web interface as a backup? Really?

First product I’ve ever seen that make the stupid Apple routers look good…

  4. “Can attest that The Knick is indeed awesome. Stumbled on it on Max Go and gobbled it up.”

While it’s on HBO Go / Now, check it out in the leanback, if you can. The cinematography deserves the big screen. It’s happily occupying 40GB of space on my TiVo, and I see no reason to ever delete it.

(Always pissed me off that there is no Max Go option for the leanback. Sure, there’s little original programming other than porn and The Knick, but still. If you’re paying for the damn channel, and there’s an MSO authenticated app, no reason you shouldn’t be able to get it on Roku…)

  5. “Thanks for the ping! But I’ve got very little interest in Apple Watch at this time…”

Ping. But what if there were an Apple Watch app to immediately let you know when one my comments were extraordinarily renditioned to Akismet Guantanamo? That’d be a killer app to drive product sales, no?

(In the future, I think I’ll just leave single-word “ping” comments in such circumstances. Certainly don’t want to add spam to the thread, but without a ping… Seems like the least worst solution, but I’m quite willing to be dissuaded.)

  6. “Brother *wireless* *multifunction* *laser* printer with great reviews for half off @ $100”

Really hard to argue at that pricing level.

But, I’ve got a real bias against multifunction devices, both in general, and specifically in the printer/scanner subcategory.

I heartily endorse Brother laser printers. Had a cheap one for years, and it’s stood up like a champ. Also had a nice Brother scanner for years.

But multifunction really isn’t the way to go in theory. They break down much more often, and get the quite real ‘abandoned driver syndrome’ much more often. Keep ’em separated.
