Deal of the Day: Samsung BDP-1590 @ $85

Woot‘s got the Samsung BD-P1590 up today for a low $85 shipped. I can’t say it’s the best Blu-ray player, or even very good. In fact, one of the top ZNF posts of all time is our coverage of Samsung’s sister unit, the BD-P1600. Because it’s got problems. Amazon commentary of the 1590 isn’t very flattering either.

However, if you’re willing to accept slower boot times, run of the mill picture quality, and that “Wireless Ready” does not equal wireless… $85 is a pretty good deal. Because, in addition to Blu-ray playback, you’ll have access to Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, and Blockbuster VOD.

I wouldn’t recommend this Samsung for your living room, but it might make a nice addition to the den or kid’s room. Assuming you can hardwire it.

  1. Pretty sure this is the unit I got from CircuitCity.com and it works like a champ. I got no complaints. Got Dan one for his birthday as well, and he seems pretty happy with it.

  2. It’ll be an upgrade to the BDP-1400 I got when I talked CC into exchanging my 1yr+ old HD-DVD player.

  3. I have a BDP-1500 that I got with my TV a year and a half ago or so. I always thought painfully slow load times were a feature of blu-ray. Which players are actually good in this department?

I still think I’m going to pull the trigger on this blu-ray player… for exactly the reason you list it might be good. It’s for a secondary tv!

  4. I’ve actually got 2 of the 1600s and the latest firmware update has resolved much of the issues I was experiencing. Was on the fence about taking them back before this update. See if it hold, but so far so good.
